The Westgate, with its cozy pub atmosphere featuring darts and a pool table, is appreciated for its excellent location, only a stone's throw from the cathedral and town center of Bury St Edmunds. Guests often find the rooms clean and adequately sized, with tea and coffee making facilities, though a few guests have noted that some rooms can be a bit warm. The good full English breakfast and great value add to the appeal for those looking for a convenient stay.

friendly staff english breakfast tidy room small room noisy fan unfriendly host
The staff was super friendly and helpful. I really liked the full English breakfast. It really set me up for the day. The room was tidy and very well presented, so I was happy!
My room was a bit small, the smallest I've ever stayed in. There was a fan duct nearby, and it kept turning on. I did not sleep so well. The host wasn't very friendly, so I didn't enjoy interacting with them.

Acceptable stay NEAR the centre

easy check in great breakfast walking distance small room noisy air conditioning limited space
I found easy check in and parking a HUGE PLUS. I also enjoyed a great breakfast . The hotel is within walking distance to shops. IT WAS excellent.
My room felt small. I THINK my room was number one. I found it the smallest room I've ever stayed in. There was a nearby heating or air condition fan duct, IT KEPT coming on every 20 minutes or so.

dirty window sills noisy room
The window sills were not clean. I noticed quite a bit of dirt. Breakfast was fine, but it seemed like the food was cooked earlier and kept warm, resulting in it being somewhat dry. The room got a little noisy since it was above the beer garden, I could hear noise late into the night. There was also a cut-through to the rear building, so people walked past often, it was not very private.

Staff members were friendly and cute, and the bar had a nice atmosphere. Breakfast started at 8:30 and included a full English breakfast. I felt set up well for the day ahead.
My room was located above the beer garden, so it was a little loud.
